Tulsa Run 2012:

We did it! Doug finished the 15k in 1 hour and 26 minutes and I finished the 5k in 37 minutes. It was very cold running through downtown. I don't think my bones ever really warmed up. Doug and Alex ran together and Doug has said that he would not have been able to finish when he did without his help. Alex is a great friend and an awesome running buddy.

After I finished running I found Karen and a very upset Henry. He was so cold and very confused as to what was going on. We eventually found a semi-warm place to sit and recover. Puffs helped Henry recover and a hot coffee helped me.

It was such a fun experience and I am sure Doug and I will do it again. It was so fun running the streets of a city that we both love so much.

This Past Week We:

- Teresa and I headed to Tulsa on Saturday evening to attend a bachelorette party. We enjoyed drinks in mason jars, a trolley ride around Tulsa, bowling in a private party room, and getting to hear some pretty wonderful Rhett and Jennifer stories. Looking forward to their wedding in just a few short weeks.
- Doug built me a picnic table! He told me back in August that he would build me a table once things at work calmed down a bit. This was one of the first weeks that he was able to have time, so he kept his word and built me one beautiful table. We enjoyed dinner on the table the next night.
- Had breakfast for dinner two different nights. Mainly because I had so many potatoes and leftover bacon I wanted to use up. Plus it is a pretty perfect meal.
- We had a potluck here at camp and took our full-time staff photo.
- I made double chocolate chip cookies.
- The milk delivery did not come in time at camp, so I ran to Walmart and bought 20 gallons of milk. You can imagine the comments and looks I received while huffing and puffing pushing my super heavy cart to the front of the store.
- I finished reading, Memoirs of a Geisha
- Went to the Salvation Army and overheard a guy and a girl talking about halloween costumes. The girl found a wedding dress on the rack and said that she could be a bride. The guy then awkwardly said that he could go as a groom. The girl just looked at the guy and said, "Uh, that would be so weird". I am thinking they might need to have a DTR.

Old Baby:

Doug has been calling Henry an 'old baby'. These pictures sure make me realize that our baby is getting older. He is not our tiny little baby that just lays on the floor playing with his toys. He takes tiny steps. He drinks out of a cup. He moves wherever he wants to be. He climbs in the chairs. He turns his pages in his books. He is our not-yet toddler and no-longer baby baby boy.

Camp Kids:

We took a staff picture yesterday evening here at camp. Here are just some of the kids here at camp (in fact there are 11 kids missing and one baby on the way!). We are surrounded by lots of kids and parents. It is a pretty great place to be raising our sweet little one. You might notice also that Henry has a firm grip on two walnuts. One in each hand. He refused to let go of them.

Rough Week:

We have had a rough week in the Castle household. Pretty sure teething is causing all the pain and frustration. If I am not careful my mind runs away and I start to think about how many teeth are in a mouth and multiplying that by how many potential children we hope to have. That is a lot of teeth. And at this point we only have two of those little teeth.

The other morning I decided to make pancakes and strong coffee. I figured if we were going to be up that early we might as well be enjoying blueberry pancakes. Henry woke up tired (from his night of screaming) so we all went back to bed at 8:30 in the morning. Doug and I have been taking turns making sure we are both having breaks and time for some deep breathing. I am so thankful for my teammate.

Last night after we put Henry to bed, Doug and I spent time together praying for our sweet boy. Those prayers help our perspective. They remind of us how blessed we are to have our son. Remind us that we are going to constantly need the Lord's help in raising this boy. He is Henry's creator and knows him better than we ever will. Wisdom, help, and strength is available if we are smart enough to surrender to Him and ask for help.

This Past Week We:

- Watched OU destroy Texas in football. Doug might have re-watched the game because it was just so fun to watch total domination of your biggest rival.
- Hosted a wedding shower for Rhett and Jennifer. We had a chili cook off, a photo booth, and caramel apples. It was a fun time of celebrating two people we care for deeply.
- Ate a lot of meals at home this week. Including fish tacos, brisket and potato casserole, bbq pork sandwiches, and spicy black bean and sweet potato tacos.
- Continued training for the Tulsa Run which is next week. Getting nervous already, that is probably not a good sign.
- Watched Moonrise Kingdom and drank hot drinks.
- Enjoyed some Cardinals victories.
- Doug is going to build me a picnic table for my birthday so we went to Lowe's to scope out lumber prices.
- Bought a new black maxi dress for $8.00. Thanks 80% off rack.
- Divided and conquered grocery shopping. Doug dropped me off at Aldi while he ran to Walmart.
- Took an afternoon walk down to camp to surprise Doug at work. Got down and found that he had left work early to surprise us at home. Surprise fail, for both of us.
- Had Alex and Jenn over for leftovers and football. I appreciated their help in cleaning out our refrigerator.

This Past Week We:

- I did Yoga on Monday evening with ladies here at camp.
- This was a last super busy week of the year (!). So Doug was working lots and lots. He did come home early enough on Tuesday night to help with bath time and bed time. Then more days passed than I would like to admit where Henry went to bed without a bath. Solo bath time is simply too dangerous.
- Had a cookout down in camp.
- Went to the Salvation Army three times.
- Planned a wedding shower for some friends.
- Found Henry in his crib with his pants off, twice.

Recently:

- My oldest sister ran the Chicago marathon with her boyfriend, Jeff. Maybe the cutest thing I have seen all day.
- Doug has been entering sweepstakes. Mainly for motorcyles. (Just another reason that living with a boy is pretty awesome)
- Henry will spit his pacifier out when he are reading his book of words and we get to the page with the pictures of food.
- I might keep listening to We are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift.

Stay at Home Mom:

Something I have found to be incredibly comforting and challenging to my heart and mind recently...

"Mothering can seem an isolated occupation unrelated to anything beyond the immediate needs of the family, but there is no more natural way for a mother to influence her world for Christ than through her own children. We will touch few lives with more intensity than the children God has placed in our homes. The implication of this are awesome...Seeds of truth are waiting everywhere to be planted in your child's mind. But you must be there to plant those seeds" Jean Fleming, A Mother's Heart

This Past Week We:

- Took two trips to Tulsa. One planned, one unexpected. We sat in the Odom's living room and talked for many hours. Ran on Riverside. Went to the new natural food store. Sat on my sister's couch and talked to her. Kissed her babies. Met their dog, Captain.
- Enjoyed having a lighter week here at camp. Doug was home every night around 5:00! We ate dinner in our dining room as a family of three.
- Ate chili with the Metcalfe's and then watched some football.
- Tried to go on a family run, but a certain little baby did not want to ride in his jogging stroller. So we made it about half-way and then Doug ended up carrying him on his shoulders while I pushed an empty stroller back to the car.
- Made zucchini muffins and I was immediately reminded of my Mom baking with zucchini.
- Finished reading The Help

Thankful:

Feeling incredibly blessed and thankful for our sweet baby boy today (and everyday).

The Train:

There is a wooden train down in camp that kids love to play on. Henry has only been on the train a few times because I was not sure if he would even play on the thing. We went down the other day and let him crawl around and play with the sticks and rocks. He is pretty slow moving through the pieces of the train. He seemed to have a great time. Before we know it, he will be running and climbing all over the thing and I won't be able to ever get any pictures of him.

Keeping Him Busy:

We have had this bowl of mixed nuts sitting on our bookshelf for about a year. Henry discovered it the other day and I discovered how great it is to have something that will keep him still and entertained for longer than 2 minutes. I love watching him explore and experience new things.

Gal Pals:

thanks again, Ashley for taking pictures when we all forget too!

So last weekend I got to spend lots of time with some pretty great people. Doug asked me on Friday night when my 'gal pals' were getting here. We then used the phrase 'gal pals' throughout the weekend. We spent some pretty great time together. Eating at the cafe in town, taking turns holding Henry, eating pumpkin pancakes, touring camp and showing all of the new stuff, watching some Pioneer Woman, and lots of catching up. It was a super simple, laid back weekend that left me yet again humbled and amazed to have such beautiful friendships in my life. I know I say it a lot, but I am deeply blessed.
