Camp through Summer Staff Eyes:

I love being friends with summer staffers on Facebook. I love seeing camp through their eyes by looking through their photo albums. So many of the pictures they take bring me right back to being on staff and taking pictures every Friday night with other counselor friends. I love seeing them with their campers. And I love seeing how many super talented photographers we have capturing areas around camp so beautifully. These were all taken by counselor, Shelby. Camp is a really really beautiful place.

The Hot Show:

Doug played his music in town at a coffee shop on Saturday night. The summer staff referred to it as 'The Hot Show'...which was fitting because it was so hot in the coffee shop. I think everyone was sweating. It was so fun seeing Doug play his music for so many people. I enjoyed lots of great conversation with some really great summer staffers. And Henry was a champ. When Doug played Henry's song, Henry starred and smiled and did lots of arm flapping. It was like he knew that was his song.

This Past Week We:

- Our good friend Esther came to stay with us for a few days. While she was here she took some fantastic pictures of our boy. Doug made this one his picture on his desktop at work. He told me that he just sat and stared at the picture for a while and got emotional thinking about our little guy. We can't even begin to describe the kind of love we have for him.
- Watched Batman Begins
- Went to dinner with the Bergstrom's
- Played in the sand volleyball court
- Had a birthday party which included steak burritos, oreo's and milk
- Checked baby brother David into camp for the next two weeks.
- All fell asleep before 9:30 pm one night

High/Low:

High:

- Doug telling some friends the other night that I am a magician because I take care of Henry all day and the house is still clean when he comes home from work. He sure does know how to build me up.
- A house full of summer staff, celebrating a birthday
- Olympics start so so soooooon.

Low:

- Waking up in the middle of night and thinking that Henry had gotten out of his crib and was crawling around the floor on Doug's side of the bed.
- Henry waking up right after I have just drifted off to sleep. I would much rather him wait a few hours and truly wake up in the middle of the night. Not at 12:15 am.

8 Months:

Favorite books: Flip Flap Fly and Pat the Bunny
Favorite toys: plastic ring set and balls
Still wakes up most nights.
Eats just like a baby bird. Opens his mouth wide for each bite.
Pulls to standing on everything.
Almost always has a red mark on his forehead from bumping into something.
Laughs when chasing Dad, when you tickle his neck or legs, and when bouncing on your legs.
Loves to grab your face and put his forehead on you

Last Night:

Last night we had the McKinney's and the Beswicks over to play Phase 10. We sat around the dining room table and played cards and ate lots of cheese and cracker and chips and salsa. We laughed a lot. I lost and Jaime won. Jaime and Teresa loved using skip cards on Doug and Nathan. We were all tired, but agreed to play one more round so that Doug and Jaime could go for seven cards of one color. [That is the best phase after all]. It was just another one of those times that I feel so thankful to have such beautiful friendships with such great people.

This morning I have been trying to recover from a late night and a night of sleep with multiple interruptions. [One of those being me waking up to Doug patting my chest and him asking me if Henry was in the bed with us.]

One of Our Favorite Things:

By far the best thing that has happened since Henry has become mobile is the fact that he is able to come to us on his own. Several times throughout the day he will just make eye contact with one of us and then start crawling straight to us. Usually with a huge smile across his face. He sure does now how to make us feel loved.

Summer Evening:

Last night we enjoyed a beautiful evening of friends. We started in the pool, but moved the party once we started to hear thunder. We ate Justin's homemade pizza and chocolate cupcakes. We watched baby friends play on the floor together. The boys talked in the kitchen while the girls talked in the living room. The boys played a yard game that I never fully understood. We ended the night playing volleyball, Henry ended the night by falling asleep in my arms.

This Past Week We:

- Our dryer broke, so we used our all natural dryer.
- Henry slept horribly, so one morning Doug took him down to work with him for a few hours to give me some time at home alone. I fell right back to sleep. My husband really is the greatest.
- Had a super sized dinner for super hero week.
- Doug played sand volleyball for the first time this summer.
- Ate Blue Bell Chocolate Nutty ice-cream almost every evening
- Went to dinner at the new restaurant in town.
- Went to Walmart and ran into three different staff families from camp.
- Asked each other for forgiveness and worked on loving each other well despite the crazy summer-ness and sleep deprivation. Sometimes marriage takes intentional work. This past week has been one of those times. The work that goes into creating a happy and healthy marriage really is what makes marriage so great and beautiful.
- Had the kitchen staff over for hobo's and s'mores.

Truth:

" How vast His grace, how firm His faithfulness, how unchangeable, how infinite His power, how limitless is His knowledge!...oh how sweet to behold Jesus and call to Him with the certain confidence that in seeking his love or power, we are only asking for what He already faithfully promised"

- Charles Spurgeon

A Hard Baby:

My Mom was talking to someone at church on Sunday and she told her that Doug and I were doing a great job with Henry. Then she made the comment that he is not an easy baby. It was so comforting and validating to hear her say that. Since this is my first baby I often wonder if he is a difficult baby or if he is just being a baby. I have nothing else to compare him to. He is my one and only at the moment. My mom has had seven babies, so she has lots of babies to compare him to.

Doug made the comment that Henry was going through a seven month fussy stage. I have decided to agree with this. He has so many really really wonderful moments. Full of smiles and laughter and he brings us joy and happiness every single day. We are deeply blessed to call him our son. But each day also brings the challenges of a little guy that wants to always be moving, hates being put in his car seat and diaper changes, likes to be held standing up, cries easily, does not cuddle or sit in our laps, and continues to wake up at night and refuse naps. You can also add in that fact that this is our first baby so literally every stage we go through is totally new territory. We have never been through any of this before.

You can imagine the joy I felt when he fell asleep on my chest last week during one of the sessions during Family Camp. It also happened to be during the parenting session. I held my son in my arms overwhelmed and excited at what God has called us to do. We are called to love, cherish, guide, and parent our little one. There is nothing that makes me more excited than to think about being Henry's mom for the rest of his life. There are days that I get overwhelmed or exhausted at that thought, but I am blessed to know that I am not in this thing alone. I have the perfect partner in Doug, a loving and gracious God that gives us all that we need day in and day out, and a wide circle of family members and friends that love and support our family.

A Week of Family:

We got to spend all last week with out of town family. I don't ever feel like I can summarize weeks like this past one very well. So many great moments and so much emotion it is hard to communicate with words. Lots of picture help a little bit and a good ol' fashioned highlights list help as well.

Highlights:
- Meeting Bethany's boyfriend, Jeff.
- Keeping the coffee pot full at all times for Grandma
- Toddler swim
- Getting to listen to Dad preach five times.[ Challenged us with the idea of doing what we ought to do. This stage of life I am called to be the best mother and wife that I can be. Every day is full of small oughts...that make my big ought.]
- Being uplifted by kind words of encouragement from Dad, Mom, and Grandma
- Watching Uncle David and Henry playing together
- Lunch at Barnette's, dinner at AQ, a Naturals baseball game, seeing Dad reconnect with an old classmate
- Eating breakfast at home with Mom, Dad, and Grandma
- Foot rubs with Mom

Family Time:

We have been enjoying a wonderful week of time with family and lots of time away from social media. So refreshing really. Who really needs to know what every single person has to say on twitter, facebook, google reader, etc.

And this picture happened:

Be still my heart. Love these two so so so so much. [Even though one of those boys is insisting on being in my arms and only in my arms this morning. Wrestling a baby and writing a blog post at the same time makes for lots of fun.]
