Oscar Night [Camp Style]:

We walked next door for the Oscar watch party. Justin and Russ made us homemade pizza and we crammed onto a couch and watched with some great friends. The Beswicks were here this past weekend and stayed around that night. Ben and Doug made me [and others] laugh the entire night.  We filled out ballots and Doug decided to make his own awards to give out. Some categories included best beard, most nasal-ey voice, best dressed, worst dressed, worst last name, best speech, and many more. The night ended with us tallying up the votes and Deedra handed out the trophies.

And, now we have a lot of movies that we need to see. First one up, The King's Speech.

This Past Week We:

- Ate pizza for dinner three nights. Homemade, frozen, and out to our favorite pizza joint in town.
- I work in the camp office and registrations have exploded. It has been a busy week of e-mails, phone calls, and trying to make parents not hate us for having to wait list their child.
- Played an intense game of church league basketball
- Learned about OU football pre-WWII by watching a informational DVD
- Spent a Monday walking around Sam's Club, eating Chick-Fa-La, and feeling like my parents. [Because, they use to always go to Sam's on Monday's]
- And watching more Lost and The Cosby Show. [We usually watch Lost first because it is scary and intense, and then we end with an episode of The Cosby Show so we can laugh and feel better about falling asleep]

This Past Week We:

1. Had lunch with Justin, the Jones Family, and the West Family. Thankfully our friends are fine with going to the Blue Moon Cafe. One of our favorite Brookside treasures.
2. Hosted a Valentines banquet for the senior adult ministry of a few churches in town. There were lots of red sweaters and sweet old men that thought I looked like I was still in high school.
3. Spent time with the Odom's on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
4. Watched an illusionist at one of the conference evening activities. Laughed at all denim man who thought each trick was ah-mazing and laughed at Doug's comments throughout the show.
5. Made Martha Stewart's crumb cake muffins.
6. Laughed at one of our sweet little friends here at camp. 3-year-old Hannah was helping clean up after dinner one night. She wiped tables and carried dishes to the dish room. I told her to go ask Doug for her paycheck. She walked up and said "Can I have my princess paycheck now?". It was maybe the sweetest thing ever.

A Brief Glimpse into the Life of a Food Service Coordinator:

We hosted our regional camp conference this past week. We had close to 100 people from different camps in the area coming together for a few days of meetings and workshops. Yesterday, Doug successfully hosted his first Food Show. It was a bit more involved this year since where they were serving the food was on the other side of camp of where the kitchen is. So, there was lots of cooking, baking, and frying food and then transporting in vehicles to the actual show. He handled it like a champ and I think everyone enjoyed getting to try new things from different vendors.

7 Valentines Days:

2004: Doug gave me a lollipop with a small card on it that had squirrels on the front. It said "I'm nuts for you"
2005: Doug made me a box with our pictures on it. I have been putting our love letters and love notes in it ever since.
2006: Doug sent me a mug with our pictures on it. It says "I promise to do my best, to never let you get mugged"
2007: ummm...We can't remember what we did this year. Dinner and flowers?
2008: I drove over to Norman and surprised Doug. We ate Thai food and watched movies.
2009: I opened our front door to find a large box and a red rose. The box was full of some of my favorite things.
2010: We drove to the middle of no-where Oklahoma and brought home our Valentine's puppy, Maxwell.
2011: Doug reserved a room for us at a fun, new hotel. We ate dinner in bed, stayed up too late, and slept in too late the next morning. We had doughnuts for breakfast and enjoyed good conversation and watching lots of cable t.v.

Letters:

Dear Sweetheart,
When I come out of the bathroom and I see you laying on my side of the bed getting it all warm for me, it makes my heart melt. Thanks for taking care of me perfectly.

Dear LOST,
I am glad we have you to help with the loss of Friday Night Lights. You are already much scarier and a bit more confusing, but I think we will like you also. Even though you have no Tim Riggins.

Dear Snoklahoma,
I have loved having you here, but we would like to be able to get our car out of our garage. So maybe you could start melting.

Dear Weekend,
I am so so so so so excited.

A Few Things:

 - We had a super bowl party here at camp. The highlight of the party was the food. Isn't that how it usually goes? We had homemade lasagna, Justin's wheat bread, enchiladas, stuffed mushrooms, and about 5 different kinds of cheese dip. We brought chocolate cupcakes with icing.

- Doug and I started the puzzle that we got for Christmas. We decided to start with the hardest part first. I know we will be glad once we are finished with this part, but I am seriously tired of trying to piece together a solid blue sky.

- We are still covered in snow and have more on the way tonight. Most people are tired of it all, but I am not yet. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that I am not snowed in with a bunch of little ones at home.

- And, Doug has planned a get-away this weekend for us. He is so nice, isn't he?

Birthday Party:

We had a birthday party the other night. We invited some of the 'guys' over and thankfully my sweet friend Teresa has been snowed in here, so she was able to come and keep me company. I made eight pounds of buffalo wings and three trays of oven fries. The guys ate and talked in the living room, while Teresa and I stayed in the kitchen for nearly the whole evening. The guys played on their phones and computers most of the night, continuing the longest Facebook thread in all of history. At one point I asked Doug if they wanted to play a game. It made me feel like I was his mom throwing him a birthday party. He quickly told me that they were fine and I just went back to what I was doing. I realized that they were perfectly content doing exactly what they were doing. We ended the night with coffee and Doug's favorite chocolate chip cookies.

Winter in the Woods:

Our front yard.

Snow Day Potluck:

We got lots and lots of snow on Tuesday (much like the rest of the country). Since we live where we work, we have still been able to work and get out and about around camp. We ended up having a very spontaneous potluck the other night as a result of the world's longest Facebook thread. Nearly all the families that live at camp gathered in the gym bearing crock pots full of warm soup and food and rosy cheeks and tons of winter wear. The kids ran around and played. The adults sat around and talked. Then we played volleyball and several games of knock-out. It was one of those moments where I was overwhelmed at how thankful I am to be where we are. We are blessed by awesome facilities and beautiful friends and families that we get to have fun with on snow days.
