Driver's License Photo Practice:

Doug has to get a new driver's license today. He stopped by to pick up the check book before he went. I told him to practice for his picture. This is what I got:

My mom posted this on my facebook wall. DK is my little brother David Keena!

"DK was telling me about a new friend of his tonight. Cordell is a funny guy that has an older brother, that is apparently also quite funny. Dave said "You know how Danae is funny now that she is around Doug so much?" And I started laughing. Then he said "Well, you know how she is a little bit funnier now because of Doug?" I thought you might get a chuckle out of that. I know I did!"

Music We Love: M.Ward

The first time I heard M.Ward I was on the ball field at New Life Ranch. Ben Beswick and Jeff Wood were the Summer Activity Leaders that summer and they got to pick what music we played all the ridiculous camp games to. For the first six or seven weeks we had listened to Relinet K over and over and over again. So, by week eight we were all ready for a change.

M.Ward was that change. And, if you know anything about playing games on the ball field at NLR you might understand how entertaining it is that M.Ward was what we played Big Friz to that week.

He has been one of my favorites since that time. He has a really great voice and his lyrics are beautiful.

Doug, Hanna, and I traveled to Dallas, TX to go to one of his shows. We met up with Ben and Jaime and had a really wonderful time. We stood so close we could have touched him, and I also remember that he was wearing very nice shoes.

M.Ward just released a new album, Hold Time. Our copy is currently in the mail being shipped to us.

Some things you need to know first:
1. For the past three years, Doug has either been really late with my valentines gift or I have just not gotten one. He would always say that he wanted to make sure he left room for improvement.
2. At the Starbuck's Doug works at he gets tips every week. He has been saving all of his tips for his 'fun money'. Money that he could use to buy music equipment, things with wheels, or lots of buffalo wings.

Doug had to work on valentines morning and I had to clean the apartment. I called him around the time he should be getting off and he told me that some girl had called in and he was going to have to work for the next hour or two. He apologized and hung up. I went back to cleaning and making a pasta salad. About an hour later I heard a knock at the door. I went to open the door and I found a box with a rose on top.

He had gone and bought lots of things that we love to do together. And with each thing he had written a note. The box had:
- a veggie sub from subway (with high fiber bread and spinach)
- a frozen pizza for dinner
- a Stevie Wonder CD
- Deal or No Deal game for our DS (we watch Deal or No Deal every lunch break that we have together)
- A cake decorating set.
- Two movies I have been wanting to see.

Doug had spent his fun money on me. On my Valentines gift. On Valentines Day. It was very sweet and special. I cried I was so happy and overwhelmed.

We also had another surprise. This one showed up at our door for a fast weekend visit:

We enjoyed talking with him and eating pizza together. It was so nice to have him here for a short time. And, he even wore his red sweater. He is seriously one of our favorite people.

My Valentine for the Past Four Years:

I love it when he sings and plays his guitar.
I love it when he brings me afternoon coffee drinks when I am at work.
I love it when he teaches Sunday School.
I love it when he lets me lay on the couch after work and he makes dinner.
I love it when he writes love messages on my Starbucks cups.
I love it when he tells me how much he loves me. I can always tell that he really means it.
I love it when he shares the body pillow with me at night.
I love that he knows me better than I know myself at times.
I love him more than I did our first valentines day four years ago.
I love that he is my husband and I am his wife.
I love that I know we will be okay even when marriage is hard.

Our sister is now married and we now have another brother. We love our new brother and we are so happy for our married sister. The weekend went really well with no major problems. We found ourselves surround by lots of left over pies, flowers, and exhaustion by the end. We are just so so happy for them.

You can see how much Brad loves Jeanette in the way he looks at her and how he talks to her. You can see how much Jeanette loves Brad in the way she talks about him and the way they interact.

Super Super Birthday Bowl

The Super Bowl was one day before Doug's Birthday. So we celebrated a day early and had some friends over to watch the game and celebrate Doug. Most of the time we try to eat pretty healthy. Doug has accused me of eating too much spinach and he jokes about 'super foods'. But for a birthday and for our four other males that were coming over I figured it was not the time to whip up flax seed yogurt with blueberries. So we ate and ate and ate and ate...not one super food.

I also got almost every recipe from The Pioneer Woman. She has great food recipes, even though most of them include sticks of butter, bacon, and heavy cream. So, we use these for special occasions around our home. And I think a birthday and a Super Bowl qualify for a special occasion.

I made these. Bacon wrapped jalapeƱos stuffed with cream cheese.

Then I made this. Cheese dip with hot sausage. And, yes we do have half a crock pot full in the bottom of our refrigerator.

And the main course. Wings. Doug's favorite food, so of course it had to be at the party.

For the fourth quarter we had chocolate chip cookies. And, I am really not sure how I have gone this long without sharing this recipe. It was plastered all over blogs for a while, so many of you might have already seen it. But it is now the only chocolate chip cookie recipe I will ever use. I thought about making a fancy birthday cake for Doug, but I knew that he would be just as or maybe even more excited if I made these cookies.

We were all too stuffed to take pictures. But you should just know that our little apartment was full of five very happy men. And on Doug's birthday I was so exhausted from all the cooking and cleaning we went out to dinner and then we spent the evening reading on the couch together.
